Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality Mini Reviews #1

I'll return to the Steam Challenge someday, I promise!

But for now enjoy this write up about the Itch.IO Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality games. Buy the bundle here - it's very worth it!

Disclaimer - I'm saying nothing negative about these games as they're mostly made by indy devs or as passion projects - instead I'm going to try and give an overview of what the game is like, as well as my recommendations from the list!

Last Knight: Rogue Rider Edition

This is an endless runner game with a few more modes than you'd expect. You play as a knight on horseback racing through various biomes and collecting coins. There's even an RPG-style mode where you can outfit your knight and horse.

Just Another Day at the Office

A game about collecting molotovs then using those molotovs on your Capitalist office co-workers. Include various anti-capitalist quotes! This would be a relaxing experience - the music is very calm - but the screams.....the screams are loud and scary....

Star and Light

A puzzle platformer which involves touching certain platforms once (and only once) to open the exit to the next level. The controls are floaty and I wouldn't recommend using a keyboard for this one (like I did).

Dreaming Sarah

Another puzzle platformer, this one Yume Nikki inspired. Travel around various dreamlike worlds and collect items which will help you travel to other dreamlike worlds. The different areas are really unique and neat!

Guppy

A 2D watercolour style game where you play a little fish in a pond, swimming around catching flies. There's not much complexity to this game (as the dev intended I think) but the artwork is very pretty!

Shipwreck

Very heavily inspired by A Link to the Past, you play as someone who's washed up on an island as is trying to uncover its mysteries. If you've played any SNES era Zelda game you'll know the format of this one.

Crashed Lander

Sadly I couldn't get this to run :(

So out of this group I'd definitely recommend Dreaming Sarah - it's one I'm going to go back to. The areas were so interesting and although some of them were unsettling none of them were outright scary (I haven't finished the game though so this might change?)

I'd also recommend Shipwreck, with the caveat that if you haven't played the SNES era Zelda games, you should play those instead. If you're looking for another game like that to play, then this seems like a good candidate.

Hopefully see you soon - Black Lives Matter.
